PE and Sport Premium
The purpose of the PE and sport premium grant is for schools to make additional and sustainable improvements to the provision of PE and sport for the benefit of all primary-aged pupils to encourage the development of healthy, active lifestyles.
This means schools must use the PE and sport premium to:
- Build capacity and capability within the school and ensure that improvements to the quality of PE, sport and physical activity provision made now are sustainable and will benefit pupils joining the school in future years; and
- Develop or add to the PE, sport and physical activity that the school provides.
Sport and physical education (PE) play a vital role in promoting a healthy lifestyle and overall well-being. They help improve physical fitness, build teamwork and leadership skills, and boost mental health by reducing stress and anxiety. Regular participation in sport also teaches discipline, resilience, and goal-setting—valuable traits both in and out of the classroom. Beyond the physical benefits, PE encourages social interaction and helps students develop confidence and a sense of achievement.
At Penkridge Middle School, sport and physical education are highly valued as essential parts of a well-rounded education. The school actively supports PE through a broad and inclusive curriculum, encouraging all pupils to participate, develop their skills, and enjoy being active. With a strong emphasis on teamwork, resilience, and personal growth, Penkridge Middle fosters a positive sporting culture both in lessons and through extracurricular opportunities. This commitment reflects the PMS Way using the school’s core values of Effort, Encouragement and Excellence, helping students thrive physically, socially, and emotionally.
